Overview

The FOTA Manager (FotaMgr) controls the Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) Client on the device, which allows administrators to perform OS updates on Zebra devices without a physical connection. The FOTA Client app comes preinstalled on supported devices and is configured to communicate with the Zebra update server.

Supported only on devices running Android 6.x Marshmallow and later.

Main Functionality

  • Set the State (active/inactive) of the FOTA Client on the device
  • Enable/disable the FOTA user interface on the device

FOTA State

This is the On/Off switch for the FOTA Client app on the device, which manages over-the-air firmware updates. Enabled by default.

1 Turn On Activates the FOTA Client on the device, enabling over-the-air firmware updates (default).

2 Turn Off Deactivates the FOTA Client on the device, disabling over-the-air firmware updates.

FOTA UI Enable/Disable

Controls device-user access the FOTA user interface and the ability to change the FOTA Client app state (active/inactive) on the device. When disabled (option 2), the device user is prevented from changing the FOTA Client state or its ability to accept firmware updates.
